I never thought that I would have issues with my gums, roof of my mouth, cheeks and tongue getting thick and hard but I did! It came on bit by bit. I suffered over the years with issues in my mouth like my jaw would crack over and over again. That would be very painful! And eventually my jaw stayed misaligned and my bite was off so my bite did not line up properly anymore. This caused my teeth to wear off angled to fit this new misaligned jaw bite. My teeth shifted as my thickened gums took over. This too would misalign my bite as my teeth no longer lined up correctly.
I also had issues with biting my cheeks over and over again especially in one area because the inside of my cheeks were so thick and swollen. My cheeks had no where to go but to bulge into my mouth and in the way of my teeth (and they were bulging on my face too!). I would bite so hard on my cheeks that I would take chunks of flesh out. I would bleed and my cheek would swell up because of the injury which would make me bite my cheek even more. This happened during the day but the majority of the biting happened when I was sleeping.
Also my tongue was so thick that it was impossible to not be biting on it day and night. It felt horrible to have this tongue that is too big to fit in my mouth. My tongue over flowed over my teeth as there was no where else for it go. So it’s no wonder that I bit it so many times!
I also noticed that the roof of my mouth had thickened and the roof of my mouth wasn’t as high up as used to be. I had a big hard lump in the middle and slightly to the right of the roof of my mouth.
It felt like everything in my mouth was closing in on itself! All the tissue was thick and hard. My teeth shifted. My mouth was a mess just like every inch of my body!
This went on for years while I was on heartburn medications and not realizing the medications were the cause of all this. When I finally got off the medications, I thought all of this was going to go instantly away by the tissue becoming softer and the swelling melting away. Unfortunately, that was the not case, things got a lot worse for me as old issues became worse and new issues arose. Just when I couldn’t stand another moment of being this way and just wanted to get better, I had to deal with this for a lot longer than I thought.
The thickening of my gums added greater sensitivity to my nerve endings but it became so much worse after I got off the medications. And this including that I went through a couple of years that my teeth were ultra sensitive which I have never dealt with before. This made teeth cleaning very painful as I could barely handle anything touching my teeth. This including if I was trying to get something unstuck in my teeth!

I’m sharing this picture of someone’s mouth not because of their periodontal gum disease but it’s shows where I really became thick and hard and the thickness continued right up to my cheeks in the upper jaw area and thickness and hardness continued in the lower jaw area that wrapped around my jawline. This thickness was in the neighborhood of a good ½”! So what should have been flexible tissue had become thick and hard tissue that was like concrete.
I found once my body started healing and the hardness was slowly going away, I started noticing changes in my mouth. The unfortunate part of the healing for me is that the hardening of the tissue is replaced with tissue becoming softer but even more swollen. So biting my cheeks and tongue became worse before it slowly got better.
My jaw finally cracked back in place which was great but now my teeth were worn completely wrong and I couldn’t bite down without hitting one side of my teeth that were too long and other side of my teeth that wasn’t even touching each other like they should be. That took a few years for my teeth to wear down evenly on both sides like they should be. My teeth slowly shifted back into their original place which was wonderful.
I found I went through a period of time that I really was clenching my teeth a lot in the night. Then I would start grinding my teeth. I would wake up with my teeth really hurting and feeling like I would break my teeth! My dentist confirmed that I could indeed do that so I got a mouth guard. This really helped to protect my teeth while I went through that stage. Eventually I was no longer clenching my teeth. Slowly the thickening of my gums and tongue softened and shrunk to their normal size. The health of my mouth came back. It was a very long journey and I sure appreciate that my mouth is healthy again!
Are you having problems with heartburn/acid reflux? Perhaps drinking a bit of soda pop will help! You can say it is a natural heartburn cure.
Right or wrong, I drank soda pop specifically coke (and MacDonald’s coke). It helped me with my heartburn and for that I’m grateful. Also in my opinion, it is a natural heartburn cure. I know that there are many negative reasons including that you shouldn’t have sugar or carbonated drinks as it’s a heartburn trigger. But I found soda pop more helpful than negative and who would have thought that pop could also have benefits!
Just because you’ve put on weight, doesn’t mean it’s fat! Say what? Are you sure you are fat? You could be gaining weight from your antacid medications and making it impossible to lose it too!
If you are taking any antacid medication and experiencing weight gain that is not explainable. And if every inch of you is hard and hurts perhaps this might be happening to you! For some people, they lose weight from being on antacid medications. Because our bodies are chemically different from one another, it can cause different side effects from the same medication!
Did you know that being on antacid medications for a few short weeks, your body will become dependent to it?! In other words, you will become addicted to antacid medication!
One of the greatest days for me was when by Googling, I found out the reason for all my many illnesses was from Nexium!
